Thursday Night/Friday Morning

We're sitting in the all-night emergency vet right now waiting to see the doctor. Another dog bit Maggie today at the park. Apparently, the other dog is "not friendly" (this is what the a-hole owner told Sarah after the incident).

Looks like we'll be here until early Friday morning...

Don't worry, my unprofessional opinion is that she's just got a flesh wound, but you can never be too careful...

Jeez. They couldn't have given you that info before the incident? Or kept control of their "unfriendly" dog? People like that are why I'm afraid of big dogs -- 90% are sweethearts, but you just never know.

Good luck Maggie! We're all pulling for you.

So what's the scoop? Is doggie OK?

She's okay. The vet shaved around her eye, gave her an eye stain to make sure there was no eye damage, and gave us a steroid cream to speed the healing. Maggie has to wear an E. Collar--the big cone thing--for a few days, which already has her confused (She's low to the ground and she keeps running into the floor). She looks like the phantom of the opera with half her face shaved (I'll post a picture sometime tonight or tomorrow). She is also visibly exhausted from being in a state of excitement until 3:45 this morning. We are trying to track down the other dog owner to see if he will be so kind as to at least assure us his dog is vaccinated (and maybe offer to pay our vet bill). Sarah didn't think that Maggie had been bitten badly when it happened, so we don't have that info. I think we may also kindly suggest that he get a shorter leash or one of those "kind-muzzle" leashes for his "unfriendly" (if by "unfriendly" you mean "vicious, easily angered") dog. Thank god for Zipcar, which helped us get her to the emergency vet.

We don't feel so hot either, but we are relieved that everything is okay and we will be much more careful from now on with dogs we don't know. It's a shame, really, because Maggie is generally so friendly.

Poor Maggie. Glad to hear she is okay, though and I hope you settle things with the unfriendly owner--he might need the muzzle...
